With the death of National Lampoon co-founder Matty Simmons at 93, I’ve dug up three things from my archives:
- My conversation with Ellin Stein, author of a history of the magazine called “That’s Not Funny, That’s Sick”;
- My review of “A Futile & Stupid Gesture,” the Netflix docudrama about Doug Kenney, one of the founders of the magazine and writer of both “Animal House” and “Caddyshack”;
- For the 30th anniversary of “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” I invited Beverly D’Angelo (Ellen Griswold) to join me and reminisce about the movie. Here’s that conversation.
