While sheltering at home, members of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra perform the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (“Ode To Joy”).

Since it’s not technically possible to sync multiple musicians simultaneously because of the delay inherent in internet transmissions, they each listened to a click track (essentially a metronome) and recorded their portions independently. Then the orchestra’s marketing personnel and others spent a week editing and putting all the tracks together. Since we can hear but not see the chorus, that must be from another recording (I don’t think all the vocalists did a new track for this), but I haven’t been able to find more details.

All in all, a beautiful effort from pros who know the joy the comes from sharing their performances with the public…
