I shouldn’t be surprised that people are still writing about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars last weekend, but I was taken aback to see several pieces discussing whether Will and his wife, Jada, have an “open marriage.”

Those are usually code words for one or both of them having sex with other people. I don’t know if it’s true, and I honestly couldn’t care less.

This country would be a lot better off if it spent less time offering opinions about what other human beings do with their genitalia, or writing laws to restrict what two (or more) adults do on a consensual basis. It doesn’t matter whether you’re married or single, straight or gay, binary or non-binary. No one — particularly politicians — has the right to tell you who you choose as your partners, sexually or otherwise.

So, if Will and Jada or Mickey and Becky or Taraz and Taylor are stepping out on each other, or doing it together, it has absolutely no impact on my life or yours, and thus is none of our business.
